Dancentre South Company
Founded in 1994 by nationally recognized teachers and choreographers Annie Day and Marcus R. Alford to provide serious students with pre-professional training and extensive performance opportunities, the Dancentre South Company (a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization) is a talented group of young dancers performing in the ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and tap dance idioms. Entertaining audiences with its versatile repertory and energetic style, the company presents a unique mix of classic and cutting edge works and appears in a variety of venues presenting everything from guest spots to full-length productions.
In 1998, DCS Company dancers were joined by students from Dancentre South Studio to bring to Cherokee County its first full-length performance of the holiday classic "The Nutcracker of Cherokee County". With corporate support from sponsors Regions Bank, Northside Hospital, IBM, Georgia Pacific and Kinko's "The Nutcracker" has brought rave reviews and plays to audiences of 2,400 annually. "The Nutcracker" continues successfully and will present 6 performances this year.
Throughout the south, the Company has performed in the opening ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Festival of Life (AIDS Benefit, Atlanta, GA), Jazz On Tap (the Atlanta Jazz and Tap Dance Festival), Festival of Trees (Children's Hospital benefit, Atlanta, GA), BalletFest Atlanta, Panoply Festival of the Arts (Huntsville, AL), Piccolo Spoleto Festival (Charleston, SC) and RiverFest (Canton, GA).
DCS Company performed and studied in Germany in 1996, 1999 and 2003 as guests of First Floor Tanz Studio, Hagen, Germany. The performance/instructional/cultural tours have included master classes, performances at the Opera House and Sportshalle in Hagen and excursions to Amsterdam and Paris. DisneyWorld, Orlando selected and presented the Dancentre South Company in concert as a part of "Disney Magic Music Days" in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2015 and 2018.
Dancentre South Company alumni can be found as directors of their own studios and companies. Members have danced professionally for Milliken Carpets, Coca Cola, Alcatel, IBM, Kohler Corporation and Carpet One in industrial shows. They have performed professionally in Europe and have graced the stages of the Boston Ballet, Disney Tokyo, Ballet Spartanburg, Chicago Tap Theatre, Disney World Orlando, college dance programs, cruise ships, television commercials, film and the Broadway stage.
